Learning from Life

How are you starting 2022?

Why not start with art?

“We ought to view ourselves with the same curiosity and openness with which we study a tree, the sky or a thought, because we too are linked to the entire universe.” Henri Matisse

Join Kate Measham and I as we explore how the human figure has been studied and employed by artists through time. From the academic search for classical perfection to more nonconformist expressions of defiance, pathos or exuberance.

Over five weeks, each session involves a talk on an aspect of the representation of the body from the history of art, interspersed with short poses by our model, leading towards a longer life drawing session linked to the theme of study. Themes include: The Academic Standard, Body Talk: expressive & introspective, The Dance of Life & Turning Points.

Drawing from life can improve your mindfulness and promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, stimulate problem-solving and encourage new perspectives. It’s also a lot of fun.

Make creativity one of your goals for 2022.
