**Talk Dates ** Winter Wonderlands

One of my favourite poems is The Journey of the Magi by T. S. Eliot. I read it at the beginning of every year and I am always struck by the juxtaposition between “the ways deep and the weather sharp” cut through with recollections of “summer palaces on slopes”. So many beautiful and alluring images are brought to mind. The poem, too, evokes the cold, hard conditions of travelling in winter - “The night-fires going out and the lack of shelters”.

This heightened awareness of the seasonal changes, this need for nature that has been experienced by many of us over the last strange and unusual 21 months was something I wanted to explore in my upcoming talk, Art in Winter - a selection of paintings and photographs that explore and respond to this most spellbinding and evocative of seasons. In times of physical or personal hardship or difficulty, we look to nature to restore, revive and inspire us. The artists I have chosen each express, in their own way, a deep affinity with the cold and snowy conditions of winter. They explore not only the human need for warmth and shelter with a powerful visual intensity but also wider political, philosophical and personal themes.

The first date & venue will be next Thursday, 20th January, 7pm in Goodworth Clatford Village Club - a glass of wine and some wonderful works of art await you.

The second date is 3rd February, 10.30am. at Penton Mewsey Village Hall, where tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided to accompany our journey through 600 years of snowy scenes.

To book a ticket in advance please email me at tangerinearttalks@gmail.com

Tickets will also be sold on the door.

I look forward to seeing you there.

***As Covid-19 is still in our midst, I would be grateful if you would consider taking a Lateral Flow Test before attending so that we can be sure we have done what we can to keep each other safe.

Spaces are limited to 30 at each venue and both halls will be ventilated as much as possible via open doors and windows. Thank you.
